Derek Alderman
Professor, Geography and Sustainability
Derek is a cultural geographer interested in landscapes of public memory, race, heritage travel and tourism, social/spatial justice, critical place naming and mapping studies. He is a former Department Head at UT and a past President of the American Association of Geographers. He is the author of over 180 articles, book chapters, and essays and a regular contributor to The Conversation.

Lori Amber Roessner, a professor at the University of Tennessee’s School of Journalism & Media, teaches and studies media history and its relationship to cultural phenomena and practices, including the operation of politics, the negotiation of public images and collective memories, and the construction of race, gender, and class. Since 2010, Roessner has served in a variety of capacities on Rocky Top, including as a faculty fellow for the Division for Access & Engagement and in Faculty Senate leadership.
